Top management has more than 50 years of collective clinical experience in dermatology. Other senior members of the team are leaders in medicine and business.
Robert J. Friedman, M.D., M.Sc. (Med.)
Dr. Robert J. Friedman is a practicing dermatologic oncologist in New York City and Clinical Professor at the New York University (NYU) School of Medicine, Department of Dermatology. A graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, he received the M.D. degree in May 1978. He completed a pre-doctoral fellowship in Experimental Pathology at the McMaster University, Faculty of Medicine and an M.Sc. in Medical Sciences in 1975. He did his residency and fellowship training at the NYU School of Medicine and Bellevue Hospital and Medical Center in Anatomic Pathology, Dermatopathology and Dermatology. He was the National Institutes of Health Melanoma Fellow at NYU from 1980-1982.
He has written more than 200 peer-reviewed medical journal articles, 30 medical textbook chapters and served as Senior Editor/Co-Editor of the seminal textbook Cancer of the Skin. He has conducted global/national seminars, including the Melanoma- and Clinical Oncology Symposium at the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) annual meetings. He has served on the Melanoma/Skin Cancer Committee and Industry Liaison Committee of the AAD and as Chairman and CEO of Dermpath, Inc. and PathSOURCE, Inc. and as Vice Chair of Inform DX.
Dr. Friedman’s expertise is in cancers of the skin, notably in clinically diagnosing and managing malignant melanoma and related lesions. At the NYU Melanoma Cooperative Group, he and colleagues originated the “ABCDs” of clinical diagnosis and self-examination of the skin as an adjunct to early detection. He is on the Scientific Advisory Board of Electro-Optical Sciences and developer of Melafind—an instrument to help diagnose melanoma, which is in Phase III clinical trials by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He also heads the Institute for Melanoma/Skin Cancer Research, Inc. and MDHealthPARTNERS, which funds and consults to small cancer-related companies.
His main interest is in the clinical care of patients with cancers of the skin. He has dedicated himself to helping to prevent death from melanoma through medicinal techniques, early detection and therapeutic intervention while the search for a cure goes on.
Bruce A. Deitchman, M.D.
Dr. Bruce Deitchman practices dermatology in New York City, where his major interest is in diagnostic dermatologic oncology. He serves as Chief Medical Officer at MDSolarSciences. In this capacity, he oversees all scientific issues at the company.
Dr. Deitchman, a 1978 graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, College of Medicine, trained in Anatomic Pathology at the NYU Medical Center. He subsequently completed an American Cancer Society fellowship in Cytopathology at Montefiore Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a residency in Dermatology at the State University of New York at Brooklyn, Downstate Medical Center.
He is a Clinical Associate Professor at the NYU School of Medicine and is one of the Chiefs of Service at the Charles C. Harris Skin and Cancer Pavilion in the Department of Dermatology at NYU-Langone Medical Center.
Alan C. Benjamin, B.A.
Mr. Alan Benjamin has 25 years of experience in establishing new lines of business and founding regional operating centers for international corporations. He began his career at Drexel Burnham Lambert (DBL) in New York City in 1983. By 1988, he was managing the Asian operations of the firm’s commodity trading activities from Hong Kong.
In 1990, he and colleagues formed AIG International Inc. (AIGI), the foreign exchange, commodity and energy trading arm of AIG Inc. In his role, he founded the Asian branch of the company. In 1993, he established AIGI’s Central Bank Reserve Management Group, which provided asset management services to treasury officials and central bank governors worldwide. Mr. Benjamin was Senior Vice President in charge of AIGI’s Global Base Metals Department until 2003.
He then served as Managing Partner at SMA Development Associates, LLC., a Connecticut-based real estate investment company and since 2007, he has been Chairman and CEO of SMG Indium Resources, Ltd., a company formed to buy and stockpile the critical element indium as an exchange traded investment vehicle.

Paul Ainsworth B.Sc., F.C.A, F.S.I. (Dip)
Mr. Paul Ainsworth joined MD SolarSciences in 2010 and has 19 years finance experience in a range of companies and markets. His specialties are financial planning, forecasting, M&A and strategic value analysis. As Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Ainsworth is responsible for strategic planning, capital raising, financial reporting & compliance, HR, IT and business administration.
Mr. Ainsworth began his professional career at Arthur Andersen and spent nine years in Europe and the US in the accounting and global corporate finance divisions, becoming Director of Andersen Corporate Finance. During his time there, he specialized in helping early stage technology and life sciences companies raise capital, grow and recapitalize, and was lead adviser on over 30 transactions worth in excess of $2 billion.
Between 2002 and 2006, Mr. Ainsworth was a Partner and Investment Director for Midven and Barclays Ventures, two private equity funds in Europe focused on growth capital investments in entrepreneurial sectors. He was appointed to a number of investee Boards and oversaw multiple rounds of financing before eventual exits. Mr. Ainsworth and the private equity groups won numerous awards during this time.
In 2006, he relocated his family back to the US and joined the Board of HomeServe USA, a subsidiary of a $3 billion insurance marketing group, as Vice President, Corporate Development, to help set US business strategy and develop their business and head up the M&A team. During his time there he oversaw revenue growth of over 500% and established operating controls over budgeting and forecasting, FP&A and established M&A and corporate planning teams.
Mr. Ainsworth holds an Advanced Corporate Finance Diploma from INSEAD (France); is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments Diploma (CFA equivalent – Award-Winner) and Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (CPA / MBA equivalent), and holds a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Durham University, (UK).
Scott M. Friedman, B.B.A.
Mr. Scott Friedman is a veteran of the health care field. His specialties are high-level sales, marketing and business development; he has served at large medical laboratories, academic/non-academic hospitals and high-volume private practices.
Mr. Friedman was Director of Client Services/New Business Development at IntegraMed America, where he brought onboard five highly successful fertility practices. He also managed the Shared Risk Refund product and physician and staff training and marketing initiatives. Previously he worked as Director of Marketing at HBP Services, a health care consulting firm, where he marketed pathology and radiology services to referring physicians.
Before joining HBP, he was Vice President and Director of Marketing/Business Development at PathSOURCE, Inc., an anatomic pathology company, which currently is Quest Diagnostics. He developed and implemented marketing/sales strategies for the head office and three independent laboratories. His resume includes Vice President and Director of Marketing/Sales at Dermpath, Inc. and Corporate Group Sales Coordinator at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami.
Mr. Friedman has a B.B.A. from the University of Miami and completed the requisite coursework for a Master of Public Health (M.P.H) degree from New York Medical College.
